Mottainai (もったいない): too good to waste. This is the concept behind our sourcing strategy, and how our Japanese partners describe our fabrics. It’s born from frugality and an appreciation of using what you make. While other brands leave fabric behind, forcing local communities to deal with the waste—usually without the technology or infrastructure to do so without environmental impact, we decide to use what is still good, what is too good to waste. As brands leave fabric behind, even for the smallest visual imperfections, we use that fabric, and are making an impact where we can. As a small brand, our impact is small, but we feel this is the most effective way to not only source responsibly, but help clean up after our peers.
