What's in the Bag: Radia Edition
The Car Kit That Keeps Me Sane (and Warm)

As far as I’ve seen, my buds are pretty great at carrying rescue essentials. However, one thing we can all improve on is the car-kit! Backcountry skiing often means driving far from civilization, often without cell reception. Have you ever made the drive to a trailhead and at 5:00 am realized you forgot goggles? I have.
To make backcountry ski trips safer, I use a massive 75 Liter Radia duffle to pack my day gear plus a little extra for myself and crew. The Radia was designed to be a kit bag, a go-bag. So everything is just ready.
Use one of the pockets for extras:
- Extra hat
- Extra gloves
- Extra socks
- Extra sun glasses
- Extra goggles
- Extra beanie
On the Inside pocket store:
- Extra snacks, long shelf life
- Extra headlamp
- Extra beacon and head torch batteries
- Extra hand warmers
- Extra Voile straps
- Duct tape
- Blister kit, larger medical kit
- Extra water
I cram my boots, full-day pack, and gear into the duffle the night before so I can just pick up and load the truck the next morning. Prepping before always helps me sleep better, and the kit approach makes packing second nature. This habit, I find, promotes a successful trip.
